Install Simulation Instrument Studio. New instrument creates the folder and logic.lua. Edit in Visual Studio Code. The extension suggests the API. A Lua extension highlights the syntax.

Run it in Test Pilot. Set a breakpoint. Hover a value. The instrument stops on that line. Then place it on a panel.
